The National Organization to Insure a
Sound-Controlled Environment
WHEREAS, The Port of Oakland demonstrates leadership to
address aircraft noise concerns in a comprehensive Community
Outreach Program that facilitates the collaboration of
groups including the Oakland Airport-Community Noise
Management Forum; and
WHEREAS, The Port is committed to minimizing the effect of
aircraft noise to the extent possible on surrounding
communities while maintaining a safe and secure air
transportation center and providing an economic engine for
the region; and
WHEREAS, The Port exhibits diligent efforts to educate the
public and government officials by contributing significant
resources to analyze and study all possible and applicable
noise reduction programs; and
WHEREAS, The Port sponsors programs to sound-insulate
residential areas and maintains a Noise Management Program
to develop and monitor procedures to minimize the impacts on
communities that are most affected by aircraft noise; and
WHEREAS, The Port works in partnership with pilots, air
carriers, and the Federal Aviation Administration to promote
and execute aircraft noise abatement procedures as part of a
continuous effort to be good neighbors; and
WHEREAS, representatives of NOISE have nominated The Port of
Oakland for this award, and
WHEREAS, NOISE seeks to honor airport operators which engage
local communities and consider their concerns about noise
impacts as a strategy for a healthy long term relationship
with the community; and,
WHEREAS, this award is named in honor of the Hon. Mary E.
Griffin, a selfless public servant
whose groundbreaking advocacy for her constituents impacted
by airport noise involved
engaging the local airport operator directly;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, On this
twenty-first day of September, two thousand
and six, that The National Organization to Insure a
Sound-controlled Environment (NOISE) does hereby confer on
Port of Oakland
